Accommodation
Tourism Whistler does not have an allocation
of rooms available for media, nor is a media rate available during
Games time. Similar to exceptionally busy periods in a typical year,
such as Christmas, accommodation providers do not typically extend
media rates on an ad hoc basis to media requesting assistance with a
visit.
Accredited media have an allocated supply of accommodations and this
is managed by VANOC. Unaccredited media are encouraged to secure their
own accommodations independently. Due to the limited availability of
accommodations at Games time, it is highly recommended that media
intending to be based in Whistler seek to secure accommodation
immediately.
To assist in this effort, Tourism Whistler recommends the following:
- All unaccredited media are encouraged to visit www.whistler.com
to search for accommodation that meets their specific criteria.
Inventory changes with each passing day; in many cases, as new
inventory becomes available, those who are frequently visiting www.whistler.com
are finding options as they become available and booking it. So, the
available inventory is not necessarily growing is size as it is getting
booked in a timely manner by those checking the site regularly. Please be sure to check the site regularly as new accommodation options will continue to be added right up until Games time.
- Those
media representatives working on behalf of a major national broadcaster
or publication in one of our key markets can request personalized
assistance in securing accommodations. Please submit your request for
assistance to mediahouse@tourismwhistler.com. Our team will review such requests on a case-by-case basis.
NOTE: It
must be clearly proven that the request is being made by a major media
outlet with confirmed plans to cover Whistler at Games time. If so, our
team will attempt to provide more personalized assistance as we
recognize the potential opportunity for Whistler is significant.
However, for the thousands of media contacts who are not on assignment
and/ or do not represent a major media outlet, assistance will not be
granted as we simply do not have the resources to address the
significant volume of these types of requests.
