Whistler Media House Accreditation
NOTICE: The deadline for accreditation application has passed. Whistler Media House has limited capacity and Tourism Whistler's mandate is to focus on media with assignments from outlets in Whistler's target markets. Moving forward, special consideration will be given to applications on a very select basis. Only those applicants under consideration will be contacted regarding the status of accreditation.
The Whistler Media House in Whistler, British Columbia, will be open February 1 - 28, 2010 to all qualified media personnel representing media organizations covering the 2010 Winter Games. The main focus of WMH is to provide a central resource facility for media who have not obtained an Olympic accreditation card from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) through the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC) - referred to as unaccredited media.
Unaccredited media representatives are media professionals with journalistic status, including radio, television, print and online reporters, photographers and videographers wishing to cover events in Whistler during the 2010 Winter Games.
Obtaining an accreditation card to Whistler Media House will allow media to cover all events staged at WMH, including press briefings, and provide access to the many services and work spaces available at WMH. Accreditation will not allow media access to events in any official Olympic venue.
WHISTLER MEDIA HOUSE ACCREDITATION PROCEDURE:
Whistler Media House staff, or designated service suppliers, will assess accreditation applications for media wishing to gain access to the WMH based on the criteria listed below. Media will not be permitted onsite without prior notice and acceptance by WMH staff. To gain credentials, media representatives must prove employment and assignment by their respective media outlet based on:
- A byline, in print or online, from a recognized media source (recognition will be authorized by the WMH)
- Letter from assignment editor of a recognized media source (recognition will be authorized by the WMH)
- Photo identification proving employment with a recognized media source (recognition will be authorized by the WMH)
Media representatives meeting the required conditions will receive an electronic confirmation letter, which must be presented to WMH accreditation staff to obtain photo identification credentials. Accredited media will be able to claim their credentials beginning on February 1, 2010 at the Whistler Media House located in Whistler.
The Whistler Media House will provide access to timely information and other services, including a master control room with technical assistance, Internet, story ideas, local tours and activities, entertainment, as well as access to food and beverage service.
